Forza Horizon: Box Cover and First Screenshot Revealed

Turn 10 Studios is preparing the next chapter in the Forza Motorsport history books with a new Horizon version. Forza Horizon will debut in Fall 2012 for the Xbox 360, and we already have an insight into the game with the box cover and first screenshot of the future game.

No other details have been provided, but the screenshot reveals that the new generation SRT Viper will be a part of the action when the game hits the shelves. The company has also announced that the new Forza Horizon will ditch simulated racing in favor of arcade action in order to one-up other famous racing games currently on the market.

“Forza Horizon combines the automotive thrills that Forza fans expect with a gorgeous open-road world that begs to be explored. “Our goal is to turn gamers into car lovers, and car lovers into gamers,” Forza 4 director Dan Greenawalt said. “This is part of our DNA. That’s why we’ve been working on this series for more than 10 years. Our goal is to take people who play Skyrim and Call of Duty and make them in racing game players. That is why I come to work every day.”

Volkswagen Polo WRC Street

Volkswagen will be headed to the upcoming Wörthersee event with a pretty cool concept car designed and built for the street. The new Polo WRC Street Concept is based on the Polo R WRC announced last year and was designed as a preview version of an extremely sporty small series due to be launched in late 2013.

The new Polo WRC Street will feature a highly unique and distinctive design language distinguished by a rear spoiler, a diffuser, a sports suspension, and an inscription with R-WRC logos. Volkswagen will adopt the same white exterior paint combined with blue and gray elements as seen on the rally car.

Under the hood, the VW Polo WRC Street Concept gets a 2.0 liter TSI engine that delivers an impressive 220 HP and produces motorsport-like performance. Of course, Volkswagen wanted to keep the performance figures a secret until the car’s official debut, so we’ll just have to wait until then to find out!

Chevrolet Camaro COPO 427 Yenko

In the 1960s two of the big three, Chevrolet and Ford, each had their own secret weapons in the form of racecar drivers turned muscle car builders. Ford had the recently deceased Carroll Shelby modifying Mustangs for SCCA use and sale, whereas Chevy had the late Don Yenko modifying a wide array of their muscle cars, the most popular being the Camaro. Yenko also ran multiple Chevy dealerships where the bulk of his creations were sold.

In 1967 and 1968, Yenko was dropping 427 cubic-inch monsters from Corvettes into Camaro bodies and creating some of the most powerful Camaros of the era. One of Yenko’s crowning achievements came in 1969 when Yenko was tired of selling Camaros with limited warranties because of his modifications and convinced Chevy to add a 427-equipped Camaro to its special equipment ordering system, known as COPO.

This addition of the 427-equipped Camaro to COPO made it possible for Yenko to sell these cars with the GM-standard 5-year or 50,000-mile warranty. Yenko ordered a grand total of 198 of the Camaro 427s available from COPO. The total number of COPO Camaros produced and sold is unknown, but has been rumored as anywhere from 500 to 1,000.

With exception of the 427 jammed into the engine compartment, the Camaro 427s came from COPO with almost nothing identifying them as a special model; they even came with the old dog dish hubcaps on steel wheels. Yenko made sure to order his from COPO with 15-inch rally wheels, a front stabilizer bar, and a 140 mph speedometer. The rest of the customization was all Yenko’s doing.

Needless to say, these COPO-ordered 1969 Yenko Camaros are tough to come by, but Legendary Motorcar Company got its hands on one and had it up for auction on Ebay.

TopSpeed Rendering: 2015 BMW M2

It’s no secret that things are going to change significantly in BMW ’s future line-up. For example, the future 1-Series will only include a hatchback version, while the coupe and convertible versions will be sold as a 2-Series. And, as many rumors suggest, the top version of the next 2-Series will be the M2. It will arrive one year after the standard model, so expect to see it sometime before the 2015 model year.

The future BMW M2 will be built on the new F21 platform and will be powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbo delivering about 350 HP. Rumors say that the new tri-turbo engine might also find its way under the hood of the upcoming model. Whichever engine is picked, it will be mated to an all-new DCT semi-automatic transmission. Also, like most of the upcoming BMW models, the M2 will feature the intense use of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic.

Maserati GranTurismo Trofeo World Series Race Car

A lot of high-performance automakers have taken to spec-racing to show off their pride and joy exotics without having to worry about any sort of regulations. Racing series like these allows these exotics to be on their unchained best.

One automaker that has taken this route is Maserati, which is in the process of beginning the third season of the Trofeo World Series. Similar to what sister company Ferrari does on the Challenge Series, the Trofeo World Series features a field of specially prepared versions of the GranTurismo coupe, which has been upgraded with a new aerodynamic bodykit that not only reduces its overall weight, but does so to make it more competitive and race-ready.

According to Maserati, the GranTurismo racers are far better than their 2011 counterparts, having showed its improved performance in test sessions: 2.5 seconds a lap faster than the 2011 models.

All the cars that will compete in the Trofeo World Series have been made track-ready by a dedicated team of technicians, ensuring that all the drivers competing will be racing one a one-spec racing field.

Another new wrinkle for the 2012 Trofeo World Series is the inclusion of new legs in the calendar, including the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California and the Shanghai International Circuit in Shanghai, China, among others.

Anybody looking to bring the heat in the Trofeo series will need to pay €110,000 (about $140,117 at the current rates), excluding the race entry and test fees. For the four European stages, the price of admission is €70,000 (About $89,166 at the current rates), excluding fees, while private teams who want to bring their own cars will need to pay €35,000, excluding fees, for the entire championship and €25,000 (about $44,583 at the current rates), excluding fees, for the European legs only.

Genevart Celsius

Swiss company, Genevart, is preparing a big surprise for the 2013 Geneva Motor Show: a new supercar called Celcius that mixes design elements from the 918 Spyder with the Carrera GT. The model is based on a Porsche 997 Turbo and will feature two KERS units for each of the front wheels. Its total output will be somewhere in the 960 HP area – just enough to sprint the car from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds.

The Celcius will feature a four-wheel drive system, an electronic sequential gearbox, and a set of carbon ceramic brake discs. Genevart’s new model will also be offered with full carbon fiber panels and in both coupe and spyder versions.

Genevart will unveil the first images of the car in August 2012, while the first on road demonstration will be made at the Top Marques Monaco Auto Salon in April 2013. The upcoming supercar will also take part in a track day at the famous Nurburgring track in June 2013. Sales will begin in September 2013 with production limited to only 10 units per year.

Ducati 750GT

One of the biggest winners at the 2012 RM Auctions in Monaco was the Ducati 750GT.

First introduced to the market in 1971, the 750GT was the personification of a flash-bang Ducati. It was flashy, to say the least. The first examples of the 750GT came with silver painted frames with the tank and side covers finished in a colorful blend of metallic colors that included gold, lime green, bright blue, or red.

Colors notwithstanding, the true highlight of the 750GT was its 748 cc SOHC V-twin engine that was capable of hitting top speeds in excess of 120 mph. The surest sign that Ducati went and invested a whole lot in the 750GT was because of the laborious and painstaking detail they took just to build one.

The construction of the engine was so precise that it took up to eight hours to assemble one unit, making sure that all the bevel-drive gears and bearings were correctly set up. If it was a racing engine, Ducati would take two days to build one. Initially, the bike’s sales lagged until Paul Smart won at Imola in 1972 with the 750GT, beating some of the best manufacturers this side of the galaxy. As a result, the 750GT became a legend of sorts, with Taglioni even saying that its engine was the best he ever designed.

As for the Ducati 750GT that was offered at the RM Auctions, that one came in excellent overall condition with superior paint, chrome details, and even the early Amal carburetors. The 750GT sold for a staggering €38,025 ($48,800), a price that’s miles north of what the estimated €12,000 – €15,000 ($15,400 – $19,000).

TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS

Big things are in store for the Indian motorcycle market, thanks to Indian bike maker TVS. That’s because the company is launching its new product, the TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS.

TVS claims that the Apache RTR 180 ABS is the first bike in the Indian market to come equipped with Anti-Lock Braking System, a technology that will now allow its customers to take advantage of the new technology.

But more than just being ABS-ready, the Apache RTR 180 was designed to be a looker, and for all intents and purposes, it is one. For starters, racing GT graphics adorn the bike, providing a look that exudes racing sophistication. The luminous rims and the race crouch mirrors are also part of the bike’s set-up, highlighting the bike’s RTR racing pedigree. Bull horn grab rails have been ergonomically designed to aid the pillion rider in holding on tight while a superbike-style rear fender comes with a replaceable and functional mud flap and a dual texture seat to provide a comfortable seating arrangement.

Powering the Apache RTR 180 is a 177.4 cc 4-stroke engine that produces 17 horsepower @ 8,500 rpm and 15.5 Nm @ 6,500 rpm.

Ghia L6.4

The Ghia L6.4 was just about as exclusive as you could get in the 1960s, as it was designed and built only for actors and other high rollers in Hollywood. The final of the 26 Ghia L6.4s ever built was built for one of the largest stars of that era, Dean Martin. Martin was not the only Rat Pack member to own a L6.4, as Frank Sinatra also owned one, as did other Rat Pack members.

Recently, one of the 26 Ghia L6.4s built, the one owned by Dean Martin, was put up for auction on eBay as Hyman Ltd. got its hands on Martin’s old L6.4. For a car of its age, the modern features are plentiful, but it still wasn’t enough for Dean Martin, as he shipped the car off to George Barris, “Hollywood’s King of the Kustomizers,” to have even more customizations performed on this already rare vehicle. This customization turned Martin’s L6.4 into a one-of-a-kind vehicle.

Lamborghini Urus will be built on PL73 platform; will be lightest in its segment

When Lamborghini unveiled the Urus Concept at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show, it came with the announcement that a production version would arrive sometime in 2017. And now, in an interview with Automotive News, Maurizio Reggiani has stated that the company hopes the Urus will become its top-selling model with an annual volume of 3,000 because of strong demand in China, the United States, Europe, Russia, and the Middle East. That’s almost double compared to the 1,600 vehicles Lamborghini sold last year.

The future Urus will be built on the Volkswagen new PL73 platform that will be used for the next-generation Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, and Volkswagen Touareg, as well as the production version of Bentley’s new SUV. Lamborghini also hopes that their future SUV will weigh as much as 4400 lbs – or about 440 lbs lighter than any of the models in its segment. And because the new platform will be made of steel, Lamborghini will need to use innovative technologies to hit their target weight. One of these solutions is a T-shaped, forged-carbon composite structure that extends from the central tunnel to the rear suspension hinging points.

Reggiani also confirmed that a twin-turbo, gasoline-direction-injection V-8 is a strong possibility because it “improves weight distribution without forcing an increase to the SUV’s wheelbase and overall length.” This engine will be coupled to a permanent four-wheel-drive system and most likely a dual-clutch transmission.
